Tips and trix for a smoother move

Moving can be a challenging experience, but once you are settled in your new home it is often a wonderful feeling. To make things easier for you, we have compiled a list of steps to consider during a move. We hope it will be helpful!

1. Plan:

Consider making a "to-do list" of the things that need to be done and accomplished from the day the move is decided until you are settled in your new home. Here are a few things to keep in mind when creating your list.

2. Budget:

What will the move cost? Do I need new furniture, do I need to repaint, do I need help with moving or move-out cleaning and/or other unexpected expenses that may arise. During a move, many people donate, sell, or recycle old furniture that no longer fits in the new home.

3. Change your address:

What will happen to my mail when I move? To avoid the risk of your mail being left at your old address, it is important to change your address in a timely manner. This can easily be done at adressandring.se. It may also be a good opportunity to inform other contacts and the tax agency (Skatteverket) that you are changing your address.

4. Electricity contract:

You will need electricity in your new home. This is a good opportunity to see if you can get a better electricity contract elsewhere or move with your current electricity company to your new address. Depending on the municipality you are moving to, you may need to pay an electricity network fee to a new supplier. The electricity company can answer if this will be needed.

5. Internet:

Make sure you can surf and watch your favorite series as soon as the couch is in place in your new home. Move your current internet or check if there are better options. Depending on whether you are moving to a rental apartment, a condominium, or a house/villa, it may look different. Many rental properties and condominium associations have already negotiated good deals for their members. Check there first!

6. Home insurance:

Insurances work as a security. Make sure you are insured from the first day you have access to your new home. Contact your current insurance company for a price at your new address or contact a new supplier. Keep in mind that insurance can look different depending on the type of dwelling you are moving to.
